"Reviewed By Peggy Jo Wipf for Readers' Favorite

Barry Holmes Mysteries: Tales of Mysterious Disappearances by Brenda Mohammed combines three intriguing mystery thrillers.
When Barry Holmes realizes that he is not good enough for Crystal's father, he leaves the Caribbean Islands.
Five years later, she desperately needs his help finding her daughter.

Through this act of love, Barry finds a new career and family.

He then becomes the head detective; he faces unusual and baffling cases that stump other detectives.
Honesty, trust, and intuition are his motto.
Barry doesn't assume the obvious suspect is the criminal and digs deeper until the truth comes to light.
The first story, The Gift of Love, was my favorite.
How will he find a child that everyone claims is non-existent when the mother insists she was abducted?
This was three months after she was in a coma with head injuries.

Brenda Mohammed is a refreshing author that brings out the best in her characters.
Barry Holmes Mysteries includes three short stories that introduce Barry and his skills in deductive reasoning.
I found the stories simple, but the plots unusual.
From the beginning, the author seizes the reader's interest and draws you into the lives of her characters and the beautiful Caribbean Islands.
Each story holds all the elements of a good mystery novel; well-rounded characters, a solid plot, and twists that unfold as the crimes are solved.
The author is known for her diverse interests and writing abilities, which come out in her stories.
I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to any other Barry Holmes mysteries."

In Stories That Intrigue by Brenda Mohammed, Julia, a best-selling novelist, and her younger sister Stephanie have just landed in Heathrow Airport from Trinidad. They plan to meet Sam Jurai whom Julia met through social media and who will be working with Julia on her 24th novel before traveling to France where Stephanie is about to start her fashion degree at the university. Throughout these fast-paced six short stories, Julia and Stephanie travel from London to France, Switzerland, and New York where they discover the streets are filled with exciting and wonderful places as well as situations that threaten their safety. Sam proves to be a valuable travel partner but he holds a secret love for Julia. Will he find the courage to tell her how he feels and how will she respond?
Each of the short stories is compelling and includes the perfect amount of tension and suspense. Brenda has cleverly written each tale to flow effortlessly into the next. The relationship between Julia and Stephanie is wonderful; their dialogue and actions perfectly prove the support and care they have for one another. Both Julia and Stephanie have the ideal blend of femininity and strong independence which I love to see in female characters. Stories That Intrigue by Brenda Mohammed is the perfect book for anyone who loves to travel as the cities throughout are described in superb detail. You really get a sense of the culture and atmosphere in each of the places they visit. I also loved the fact that the characters were from different cultures. The author has a wonderful talent in creating characters and dialogue that completely engage the reader. The stories are filled with love, exciting action, human vulnerability, and tense dangerous situations."

"Below you will find ratings (scale of 1-5) with descriptions for the major parts of your book followed by your Readers' Favorite review. Although these are general ratings we hope they will give you an insight into how others may view the different components of your book.
These are the opinions of your reviewer, and although your reviewer is not an expert literary critic or professional editor, they are at the very least, an avid reader of books just like yours.

Title:  Stories That Intrigue
Subtitle:  Six Stories of Romance, Delight, and Mystery
Author:  Brenda Mohammed
Genre:  Romance - Suspense

Appearance: 5 The appearance of a book can make a significant impact on the experience of a reader, whose enjoyment is often enhanced by an enticing cover, an intriguing table of contents, interesting chapter headings, and when possible, eye-catching illustrations.

Plot:  5 The characters of a book should be well defined with strengths and flaws, and while they do not have to be likable, the reader does have to be able to form a connection with them.
The tone should be consistent, the theme should be clear, and the plot should be original or told from a unique perspective.
For informative books -those without plot and characters--this rating refers primarily to your concept and how well you presented it.

Development: 5 Development refers to how effectively you told your story or discussed your topic. The dialogue should be realistic, the descriptions should be vivid, and the material should be concise and coherent.
Organization is also a key factor, especially for informative books -- those without plot and characters.
The order in which you tell your story or explain your topic and how smoothly it flows can have a huge impact on the reader's understanding and enjoyment of the material.

Formatting:4 Formatting is the single most overlooked area by authors.
The way in which you describe scenes, display dialogue and shift points of view can make or break your story.
In addition, excessive grammatical errors and typos can give your book an amateurish feel and even put off readers completely.

Marketability:5 Marketability refers to how effectively you wrote your book for your target audience. Authors may include content that is above or below the understanding of their target reader or include concepts, opinions, or language that can accidentally confuse or alienate some readers.
