HOW TO CRAFT AN EFFECTIVE BIOGRAPHY

CRAFTING AN EFFECTIVE AUTHOR BIO

If you’re a writer with few publication credits, or none at all, crafting a compelling bio can be challenging. Don’t worry. You do not need stellar credits to have a great bio.

A BIOGRAPHY MUST BE WRITTEN IN THE THIRD PERSON.

The most effective online bios are both professional and concise. Here’s how to write a short bio that suits your website or brand:

01. Introduce yourself

Begin your bio by stating your first, last name, and your country. If you’re writing in the third person, these should be the first two words of the paragraph. This makes your name easy for your audience to identify and remember.

02. State your company or brand name

Think about whether you want your bio to represent yourself on a personal level, or whether you’d like it to come across as more professional. If you have a personal brand or business - for example, a blog, freelance business or ecommerce site - be sure to mention your brand name at the beginning of your bio. Don’t be afraid if the name sounds simple or redundant. It’s perfectly fine, for instance, to say Mary Smith of Trinidad and Tobago is the founder and CEO of Smith Digital.

Likewise, feel free to mention the name of another company or brand that you work for if you’d like to associate it with your professional accomplishments - e.g., Mary Smith of Trinidad and Tobago is a consultant at Google and the founder and CEO of Smith Digital.

03. Explain your professional role

Next, briefly explain your current position. This is relevant whether you’re the founder of a company, a high-level specialist or a beginner in your field, and it can be similar to the description you have on your resume. Your website visitors won’t necessarily know what your job involves, so elaborating on your primary responsibilities helps paint a picture of who you are and what you have to offer.

Present yourself in a polite, and professional way.

Don’t pad your bio with irrelevant info.

Most editors and readers love the opportunity to discover new writers with unique voices. It does not matter how many publications you have, as long as your writing is strong. Your bio can be as short as a few sentences that mention the country you live in and your profession.

Establish expertise. You will want your bio to influence people to read your work. If the main character in your book has a trait or hobby that you happen to share, or the story takes place in a setting you know like the back of your hand, your expertise will lend your work authenticity. For example, if you write a book that takes place in a bank, it would be a good idea to mention that you’ve worked in a bank for years.

Show that you take your writing seriously. Even though you may not have published any books before, you can show your dedication to writing by mentioning popular writing groups or organizations of which you’re a member.

Keep it short, sweet, and to the point. No one wants to read a long-winded version of your life story. Avoid clichés like “It’s always been my dream to be a writer” or “I’ve been writing since I was three years old.”

SELF PUBLISHING WITH BRENDA MOHAMMED - PREPARING YOUR MANUSCRIPT

PREPARING YOUR MANUSCRIPT

If you are publishing a poetry book, to prepare your Manuscript, compile all of your poems in a Word Document with one poem on each page. Choose a suitable font.

I use Arial.

Some poems may be longer and may take more than one page, but that is okay.

You can also use a short quote above each poem, and an image for each poem. To insert images, make sure they are saved on your computer and use the Insert button for pictures in Microsoft word. To resize the image to fit the page, use the Format button.

Make sure that your Word document is formatted exactly the way you want.

Check your page breaks, line and paragraph breaks, title page, and perhaps chapter titles if you have them. These might be your poem titles, if it is a poetry book.

If you are using Microsoft Word, follow all instructions at the top for Design, Layout, References, Table of Contents, etc.

In Design, you will select a theme, font, spacing, etc.

With respect to Layout, here is where you choose the book size, margins, and indentations.

In References, you select Table of Contents. Readers love a clickable Table of Contents in the EBook Format.

To design the Table of Contents is a bit tricky, but it is worth your reputation as a reputable writer, to provide one for your readers. Some writers omit this important feature from their eBooks, and lose future sales.

Highlight the headings one by one. If it is a poetry book, the headings will be Poem titles.

Right click on Heading 1 at the top. Click on Modify. Right click again on Update Heading 1 to match selection.

After you have done that for all Headings, go to the first page where you want to insert the table, click on Reference, and then Table of Contents.

Your clickable table will appear.

Page numbers will not work with an eBook, so do not insert them.

You should insert page numbers in the Print book.

Do not include anything in either the headers or footers.

Save your document in .docx format.

That is your Manuscript.

For any other type of book, follow the same procedure.

When you publish on Amazon, use Amazon Kindle Create. You can download the App free.

With Amazon Kindle Create you can highlight your headings, sub-titles, and resize and reposition images too. The result will be a beautiful eBook that your readers will love.

To publish a paperback book, insert the page numbers and convert your manuscript into a PDF, ensuring that all Chapters start on a new page.

There are many videos on YouTube that show you how to publish EBooks and Paperback books on Amazon, step by step.

In another lesson I will give you links for videos.

SELFPUBLISHING WITH BRENDA MOHAMMED

SELFPUBLISHING WITH BRENDA MOHAMMED

BENEFITS OF SELF- PUBLISHING
Dear Friends,
Let's explore the benefits of self-publishing.
I have self-published 50 books to date, and if I tell you it was easy to do so, I would not be telling the truth.
With each book there were new challenges, but I learned something each time.
What I can tell you, is when you learn to publish your own books, you not only save a lot of money, but you become self-sufficient.
The benefit of self-publishing is, there are no literary agents or publishers standing in your way. This allows for diversity to flourish.
There are no contracts to sign and you are free to make changes to your book at any time, without paying fees.
Not only are the barriers to entry lower, but the royalties are higher. When you work with a traditional publisher, they have to take their cut. By self-publishing your own book, you can earn more for each book that you sell.
When you self-publish, you own your work and have complete control over the publishing process. For a lot of authors who have poured their hearts and souls into writing a book, it’s very important for them to have power to make decisions throughout the publishing process.
As technology has improved, self-published authors now have access to high-quality printing and book distribution networks similar to traditionally published authors. Your self-published book will look like the other books on the pages of Amazon.
If you are considering publishing a book of poetry or even a fiction novel, let us look at the steps to get your book in front of readers.
1. Preparing a Manuscript
2. Choosing a Book Title
3. Editing your Manuscript
4. Importance of a Book Cover

Trinidad and Tobago’s Film Industry emerged in the late 1950s and by the late 1970s there was a small amount of local productions, which included both feature films and television programmes. Trinidad and Tobago boasts of unique country features and an ideal geographic location. In this regard, Trinidad and Tobago possesses substantial resources for the production of feature films such as a variety of contrasting location sites all within close proximity to one another as well as experienced production crews. As a result of these resources, over a period of almost sixty years a number of international feature films have been shot on location in Trinidad and Tobago in spite of other more competitive locations in the Caribbean Region. Improvements in technology specifically the advent of low cost high definition video cameras in the 21st Century, has led to the production of several local feature films in Trinidad and Tobago.

Book Review of My Life as a Banker

REVIEW BY SHANITA VICHARE OF MY              LIFE AS A BANKER WRITTEN BY
                    BRENDA MOHAMMED

Reading through the pages of this scintillating book, MY LIFE AS A BANKER, I have been very impressed by Brenda Mohammed's upbringing as a young girl, born into a big family of ten., She never ever lost a moment to learn from any given situation.

She has been a lifelong learner and a winner too.

Her life deeply reflects her 'Presbyterian Church's values and she has taken to the free flow of life, under 'divine guidance.'

I sure recalled Oprah Winfrey's, YouTube Show "My Success & Spiritual Journey, where she quotes her favourite Bible Acts Proverb 16.3 "Lord, Thy God Is A Loving God" and deeply admires Acts 17-28. Proverb - " You are God's Child and Through God All Things are Possible.".

Here I see beautiful synchronicity of life's experiences, times, and circumstances that prevailed. In Brenda's book,.

She writes about her early days before her father rose to the rank of 'Headmaster' of Presbyterian Church Schools.

They had no electricity in their house, lived in a dreary-looking house, and an open yard.

I quote, "My sisters and I played many games under that tree and feasted on the big juicy almonds it bore. There was a large orchard of fruit trees at the back of the house. We enjoyed oranges, bananas, pomcytres, and mangoes whenever they were in season."

Two married Canadian missionaries approached her parents to adopt her.

The husband was the Church Minister and he had baptized her at birth.

Brenda's parents did not grant their wish and they returned to Canada after one year in Trinidad.

Brenda was loved by her parents.

Well growing up, in a small rustic village in the lap of nature, sure gave Brenda a very juberious experience.

She developed a love for family pets.

Her fishing experiences with her brother are so scenic.

Her father took them to Manzanilla, one of the popular beach resorts in Trinidad.

I think that was the beginning of her love for her native island of Trinidad.

At a young age, Brenda's life was influenced by the Passion Play, which the Church Youth Group performed under the supervision of the church minister, Reverend Roy NeehalI (deceased).

She was a member of the school choir at St. Augustine Girls' High School and would always remember Miss Lenore Mahase, the music teacher, who trained her to sing.

Lenore Mahase played the piano beautifully too.

She conducted the choir with her hands and used her fingers to show them how to form the words as they sang.

In the school dormitory, on occasions, the matron allowed them to go to hockey matches when St Augustine Girls played against other schools in Port of Spain.

One of the older girls in the higher form was put in charge of them.

Brenda fondly remembers their school chanted this and cheered the school crowds at the matches:

St Augustine High,

St Augustine High Yiketty Yackety aye, aye, aye!

Show 'em how to play girls, show 'em how to fight,

Yiketty Yackety aye, aye, aye.

Brenda learned most of her worldly gospels from the church, her school life. and when she lived in the school hostel.

She and her husband met at the bank.

She had yearned to meet her life partner, just like any other sensitive girl does.

Her father too had been really worried as she was most deserving and had made strong individual choices in her life.

Maya Angelou's quote is so befitting here "Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope."

Brenda Mohammed's turning point in her life as an 'Accountant'; came when she went on transfer from Couva Branch to the High Street Bank, San Fernando Branch.

ln those days, Englishmen managed most of the branches of Trinidad.

The Head Office of Barclays Bank D.C.O. in the United Kingdom made all managerial appointments.

Barclays Bank owned the majority shareholding then.

She had to accomplish her new skill sets and came out with flying colours, in her ' Computer Aptitude Test'.

These big steps lead her to master further as a Head in 'Foreign Trade'.

Turning through the pages of this awesome book, I definitely felt that Brenda Mohammed's journey from a small-town girl and from honing her job skills from doing ledger entries to head as Relief Manager and rise to the Corporate Level as a Senior Manager has indeed been very remarkable.

In due course of her life, she did bear the personal loss of her most loved ones, but she managed her hurdles in the best possible ways.

I think for her "Work Is Worship."

Gender Equality in the Banking Sector

GENDER EQUALITY IN THE                                     BANKING SECTOR

I am sharing my Interview on Gender Equality in the Banking System which has been published in a book written by Shakil Kalam.
Questionnaire:
QUESTION1. You know, women are being deprived of their rights in male-dominated societies all over the world. How do you think equal rights for men and women will be established?
ANSWER: Establishing equality between women and men, and eliminating all forms of discrimination against women, are fundamental human rights. Yet, women in male-dominated societies around the world, regularly suffer violations of their human rights, because it is not given priority.
To achieve equality between women and men requires a deep understanding of ways in which women experience discrimination, and are denied equal rights.
In recent years, the United Nations made much progress in this respect, across the world.
Fundamental human rights for women and every human being were enshrined by the United Nations some 70 years ago. T
these rights include the right to live free from violence, and slavery; to be educated; to own property; to vote, and to earn a fair and equal wage.
However, women’s realities are constantly changing, and new manifestations of inequity are regularly emerging.
Some groups of women claim discrimination based on their age, ethnicity, nationality, religion, health status, marital status, education, disability, and socioeconomic status.
These complaints should be looked into when devising measures to combat discrimination against women.
Prior to the 20th Century, women were not allowed the following:
1 To have a passport.
2. Serve as permanent members of the military.
3. Work in jobs that were hazardous to their health or morals.
4. Keep money.
5. Work night shifts.
6. Work while pregnant. ...
7. Serve on a jury.
8. Vote.
All this has changed in many countries.
In my country of Trinidad and Tobago, we have a woman President, a woman Speaker of the House, Women Parliamentarians, Women Bank Executives, Women CEOs, and a Woman Moderator of the Presbyterian Church, a Woman Opposition Leader, and we once had a woman Prime Minister.
QUESTION 2. You know, women's rights and empowerment depend on financial inclusion. In your opinion, what are the ways of women's financial inclusion?
ANSWER: Financial inclusion is important for women to access loans, credit facilities, and operate businesses. It is essential for them to save money, make investments, become entrepreneurs, and build assets to prevent poverty.
Financial Inclusion is a critical indicator for the development and well-being of society around the globe.
Banks must provide affordable financial services for all.
Financial inclusion facilitates gender equality and sustainable development goals.
Empowering women is a sensible approach to building the economies of the world. Men alone cannot do it.
There are many single mothers in the world today.
Women’s financial inclusion is essential for global progress.
QUESTION 3. What is meant by gender equality in banking?
ANSWER: Banks have recognized that increasing equality of opportunity across gender, ethnic, and racial groups, provides social and economic benefits.
Women are being given senior positions in banks along with men.
Banks have also increased efforts to address gender equality challenges for women customers who want to start businesses.
Bank products are developed for men and women alike.
Banks in developed countries have recognized that gender equality is when people of all genders have equal rights, responsibilities, and opportunities. Gender equality prevents violence against women and girls. It's essential for economic prosperity. Societies that value women and men as equal, are safer and healthier.
Gender equality is a fundamental human right.
QUESTION 4. What are the rights of women in banking?
ANSWER: The banking sector in developed countries has been at the forefront of women's empowerment. Financial inclusion and economic independence of women have helped them achieve socio-economic equality. This makes women's empowerment as much of an economic issue as a social one.
However, in some countries, women are still underrepresented at all levels of the global financial system, from depositors and borrowers to bank board members, and regulators.
The rights of women in banking are fundamental human rights, i.e. gender equality.
QUESTION 5. What are the barriers to the protection of women's rights in banking?
ANSWER: There are various factors stifling progress for women, and which are barriers to the protection of women’s rights in banking.
The most critical is the impact of social norms, which are prevalent mainly in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and parts of Eastern Europe.
Social norms in these countries influence nearly every aspect of daily life, including financial services. They have an adverse impact on financial inclusion for women because they can limit women’s ability to work outside the home, engage with male agents, or even own a phone.
Cultural norms about what is acceptable for a woman to do, where she can go alone, or with whom she can interact, all serve to limit women’s access to progress.
Some common social norms and beliefs include:
i. Women are primarily viewed as caregivers and are confined to the home.
ii. Unfounded beliefs that women are not as financially savvy as men, and must rely on their husbands/male relatives to make financial decisions.
iii. Societal beliefs that women should not own property or be involved in financial decisions.
iv. Women are not expected to be business entrepreneurs, because doing so interferes with their primary responsibility of managing the household and looking after the family.
v. Unfair practices in the workplace: Some employers have policies against hiring women because they believe that they may invariably take time off, for maternity leave and sickness of children.
QUESTION 6. What are your suggestions on removing barriers to women's rights in banking?
ANSWER: To remove barriers to women’s rights in banking requires Education and the removal of Regulatory Barriers.
Regulators should implement measures to influence or shift mindsets on social norms.
Legislation promoting gender equality and financial literacy campaigns should be introduced in countries where necessary. Women should have equal access to courses of study and opportunities for promotion in the workplace.

CHOSEN BY THE CREATOR

I have been inspired to write another book in the Books for End Times Series.
It’s time for us to wake up because these are not normal times.
The Holy Bible has all the answers, but humankind has failed to read it and grasp the true meaning.
CHOSEN BY THE CREATOR will enlighten all on God’s plan for humankind.
Read inspiring Bible stories of men and women in both the Old and New Testaments, chosen by God, our Spiritual Father, to continue HIS creation on earth in accordance with his covenant with Abraham.
Though many failed to obey him, God forgave them despite their flaws and weaknesses.
As you read this book you will discover that the fullness of God’s promise to Abraham has become a reality, and every tribe, tongue, people, and nation are blessed in Jesus Christ, as they trust in Him for eternal life.
Does Jesus’s resurrection guarantee the resurrection of believers and the new creation which is coming?
LOOK OUT FOR THIS BOOK THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
