Author Brenda Mohammed wins Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti Award
Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated on 2nd October every year to mark the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, who was famously known as Mahatma Gandhi.
Father of the Nation, as he was called, led India's freedom movement along with many other national leaders against the British rule in India.
Here is the poem I wrote:
MAHATMA GANDHI
It’s the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi,
Revered the world over for his nonviolent philosophy.
A strong advocate of truth and non-violence,
He gained for his country India, Independence.
*
Indian lawyer, politician, social activist, and writer,
Led the masses with his optimism, courage, and charisma.
Humbly dressed, the epitome of humility and frugality,
One of the greatest leaders, and an inspiring personality.
*
Fondly called by his followers Bapu and Mahatma Gandhi.
He’s known as the “Father of the Nation” to many.
UN General Assembly to uphold this great man’s remembrance,
Declared October 2 as International Day of Non-Violence.
